Kurtz-Walker House

The Kurtz-Walker House was built in 1900 as a vernacular Queen Anne cottage by Eugene H. and Bessie B. Kurtz. Bessie's father was Louis A. Gratz, who was mayor of North Knoxville (before it became part of the City of Knoxville). The street that this house is on (Gratz St.) is named after him. Bessie's grandfather was a cousin of Marcus D. Bearden, who was mayor of Knoxville (and who the Bearden area was named after). Despite their ties to the Knoxville area, Eugene and Bessie moved away to Louisville, KY, where they are buried. William "Alex" and Cynthia B. Walker bought the house in 1907.
