Pavestone patio stones come in a variety of colors, shapes, and sizes. Patio stone installation is simple, and with the right tools, you'll have a new patio in no time. Installation of pavestone patio stones is similar to pavestone pavers, but patio stones are not suitable for driveways. There are eight steps to installing your pavestone patio stones: site preparation, excavating, installing the base, screening the sand bed, laying the stones, cutting the stones, installing edge restraint, and finally compacting and finishing. Go to the next video to see how to get started with your pavestone patio.

Now that you have all your equipment gathered, you can get started on preparing the base for your patio. Using your spray paint, mark the outline of your patio. With the project area marked out, you're ready to excavate. Using your shovel, remove the grass or dirt from the area you've designated for your patio. Digging as deep as you want your base to go. When excavating the grass, use a spade or a sod cutter to remove the grass from the project area. Use a shovel to remove the soil once the sod is removed, and check your depth regularly using a tape measure. Next, using your aluminum or plastic edging, build a frame for your patio or walkway. For your base, use an inch of pavestone paver sand over the entire area, and use a 2x4 board and 3/4-inch steel conduit pipes for screed rails to screed or level the paver sand. Pack the sand down with a hand tamp or gently spray a water hose skyward over the project area to dampen the sand. Do not skip this step and lay your pavers over native soil. Your patio space is now laid out and excavated, so you're ready to lay your patio stones. Go on to the next video or take a look at the written step-by-step instructions.

Now that your patio space is completely prepared, you can begin to lay your stones. Start in a corner and place stones over the entire area, sliding stones straight down. Don't slide your pavers across the sand as this will disrupt the base. After laying the stones, sweep paver sand across the stones, filling the joints with sand. It's important that you use sand and not any kind of Portland cement or mortar mixture. Congratulations on completing a valuable improvement to your home. Now you can step back and enjoy your accomplishment and start accessorizing your new patio or walkway, whether with furniture, landscaping, or something else you've had your eye on. You can enjoy the new living space with the personal satisfaction of having created a beautiful outdoor environment that is uniquely yours, easy to maintain, and one that your friends and family will enjoy for many years to come.
