Thomas & Annie Kluttz House

Last fall I went on the Modernism Home Tour by Knoxville by Design. This first house was built around 1900 in the Queen Anne style. The first owners were Thomas and Annie Kluttz. Thomas was an architect who moved to Knoxville to partner with George Barber in the firm Barber & Kluttz. Then in 1948, the Brick Layers Union bought the house as their offices and replaced the wood clapboard siding that is more typical of a Victorian house with brick. The most recent renovations were started in 2018, lead by Curb Studio. The current design retains the historic elements that remained, while adding modern interpretations of elements that needed replacing, like the non-original front porch railing.
