Martina Zrnec: Founder & Builder Essays

Martina Zrnec's essay collection offers an intimate look at the psychological and practical realities of founding and building a startup. Drawing from her experience as co-founder, her writing spans themes of identity, self-doubt, and the emotional weight of creating something meaningful. Essays like "When Praise Feeds Doubt" and "I Keep Waiting to Wake Up" explore the tension between external validation and internal uncertainty, capturing what it feels like to succeed while still questioning whether you belong in the role.

The collection also engages with the technical and strategic dimensions of building. Her writing on benchmarking an 84% token reduction and open sourcing the ACP protocol reflects a founder who is deeply embedded in the craft of engineering, not just the vision. At the same time, pieces like "Falling Into the AI Rabbit Hole" and "Coverage Is Not Overlap" reveal an awareness of the noise and communication gaps that can quietly undermine even well-resourced teams. The essay on rebuilding their technical foundation, framed as both a systems challenge and a personal reckoning, underscores how infrastructure decisions carry human consequences.

Across all entries, Zrnec writes with candor about the specific exhaustion of building something that matters, the kind that does not always come from overwork but from the weight of consequence and ambiguity. Her essay on Surfaces, a tool built so founders never have to keep rebuilding a website they have already stopped loving, grounds the collection in a practical philosophy: good building should reduce friction, not multiply it. Together, these essays form a rare firsthand account of founder life that holds both the technical and the deeply personal in the same frame.
