I have witnessed a tremendous amount of growth in the city over the past 21 years. The downtown area has been redeveloped into a nice night time social area with several bars and restaurants and an open town green where they host family-friendly events. There is a great outdoor shopping center called Avalon that has shops, a movie theater, restaurants as well as residences, two office buildings and a conference style hotel. It is always busy there as people come from all over the metro Atlanta area to shop and dine there. The schools are great and the recreation opportunities cover a wide range of interests. They even have a very active senior center for residents. The only thing I would change would be the traffic. As it has grown, traffic has become very congested. Road widening projects along the Hwy 9 corridor and GA-400 barely keep up with the growth in the northern part of the county. Nearby restaurants are great too. There's lots of family owned stores and shops around, and everyone is very open and willing to try new things, as well as very supportive of the arts and expression. The schools in the area are funded very well, and the students earn good test scores and show lots of school pride in return. The real estate market is quite expensive due to how up and coming the town is, with it's close proximity to Atlanta, and there is a lot of construction happening all over that can make commuting a little annoying, especially during rush hour or when there is a lot of traffic. It is very diverse and there are people of all ages and demographics, making it a great place for a young family to lay down their roots.
