# From Retrofit Planning to Real Project - Toronto 2030 District

Jeffery Boakye Botah, MSc., PG.Dip., PMP® 1h Edited Report this post From Retrofit Planning to Real Projects 🏗️ Another thrilling event at Enspire Potential: Immersive Cleantech Studio (EPICS) , and this one went from the website to the field. Toronto 2030 District brought together Commercial Real Estate and Sustainability professionals for a morning that answered a simple question: how do we get from a retrofit plan to a retrofit that actually gets built? Step 1: Find the tools Julia St. Michael , Executive Director of Toronto 2030 District , introduced the new Heat Pump Highway and showed how CRE teams and other professionals can use it. She also toured the Toronto 2030 Platform and the wider 2030 Districts Network. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/g7zJ9StV 🔗 https://lnkd.in/g_2GADfA 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gRq4uFgX Step 2: See it done Michael Guadagnoli , Vice President, Sustainable Performance at Ecovert (Member of BPA) , took us inside 240 Markland Drive: a 1964, 10-storey, 113-suite rental tower that stayed occupied through a deep energy retrofit. The numbers speak for themselves: ✅ 56% less energy use in measured Q1 performance ✅ 54% lower winter peak demand ✅ 113 geothermal boreholes (52 vertical, 61 angled) using about 70% less surface area, with the sites trees preserved ✅ ZCB-Performance certified, with no on-site gas combustion His lesson that stuck with me: resident communication and suite access are part of the design, not an afterthought. Step 3: Fund and flex it Kirk Johnson and Nick Brown C.E.M., C.M.V.P closed with a quick look at the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) demand flexibility, virtual decarbonisation tools and the incentives available to support projects like this. Thank you to Toronto 2030 District , Ecovert (Member of BPA) , Julia , Michael , Kirk , Nick and all attendees for such a practical, informative session, and to BOMA Canada and Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) for their continuous support of sustainability education and initiatives. #Toronto2030District #HeatPumpHighway #EPICS #BOMACanada #NRCan #DeepRetrofit #GeoExchange #HeatPumps #Decarbonization #IESO #DemandFlexibility #CommercialRealEstate #SustainableBuildings #Toronto View C2PA information +8 7 Like Comment Share Copy LinkedIn Facebook X To view or add a comment, sign in
