# Ventura Pier Beach in Ventura, CA - California Beaches

Photo Gallery View all 20 images About Ventura Pier Beach in Ventura, California The sandy beach at Ventura Pier is Ventura’s main city beach and is nearest the downtown area. The original San Buenaventura City Pier was first constructed in 1872, and has been renovated, but is still an old structure on wooden pilings that attracts fishermen and tourists who visit the Ventura waterfront. The view from the beach and the pier looks out over Pierpont Bay toward the Channel Islands . When visiting Ventura, plan to walk out onto the pier to take in the best views (it’s 1600 feet long). Then, if you have more energy, consider walking north on the paved Ventura Promenade pathway to Surfers Point Park . You can walk as far as you’d like and will probably see surfers riding the waves that break around the point. South of Ventura Pier is San Buenaventura State Beach which can also be reached via the Promenade (about 4/5 of a mile from the pier). Restaurants are available on the pier and at the Crown Plaza Hotel next to the beach. Bikes, beach chairs, and body boards are available for rent at the pier seven days a week in summer and on weekends in the winter months. To get to Ventura Pier Beach from downtown just head toward the ocean on California Street and you’ll find it. There is a large parking structure next to the Crown Plaza just off Harbor Boulevard. Another option is the northern parking lot for San Buenaventura State Beach which is right behind the beach (the lot entrance is south of the pier).
