This morning, we joined a room full of female founders and leaders for the Female Founders & Funders Breakfast, connecting around building, raising, and supporting one another to step outside our comfort zones. We were lucky to hear from an incredible panel: Ella Molony Cook (Time Rich AI), Pam Kavalam (The Pitch Fund), Liesel Vaidya (Imera), Susie C. Trujillo (STRUC Ventures) and Assel Seitova (Sisters). Here are our biggest takeaways: Women, stop underselling yourselves. Building your sales skills matters, especially early on. Yes, traction is important, but relationships are the real foundation. Your strengths are your superpower. One panel highlight was a pitch comparison that showed how a grounded, authentic female founder handled tough investor questions. Empathy, self-awareness, leaning into who you are, these aren't soft skills, they're competitive ones. Burnout is real and hustle culture is not the answer. Sleep is not a luxury (one panelist called it a hobby, we're obsessed with this). Inspiration strikes when you step away: on a bike ride, in a conversation, away from the screen. IRL is everything. You cannot replicate this kind of connection online. Getting out of your silo, showing up in a room, being present, it really does change things. That last one especially hits us at Spritz and why we’re building to make that event planning process easier! Trujillo liked this Almost a year ago, I decided to pursue consulting and fractional CMO work instead of taking another traditional marketing leadership role. I knew how to build brands. What I didn't know was how to build a business around myself. Luckily, I found IndeCollective (thanks, Julie Nelson !), which helped me fast-track the learning curve. The funny thing is that while I had no idea how to build my own business, I was completely confident I would figure it out. One year later, I have so much more clarity. I've sharpened who I want to work with, narrowed my services to the work I truly love (not just the things I can do), and built a successful business that feels authentically mine. I've also been able to continue mentoring founders through SKU and Naturally Chicago , which remains one of the most rewarding parts of my professional life. That said, this path isn't for everyone. Not everyone has the financial runway to spend a year figuring things out. Not everyone has a spouse able to provide health insurance (thanks, Mark Gordon !). Not everyone has a father-in-law willing to proofread their website (thanks, Frank Gordon !). And not everyone has an incredible network of people who will say their name when someone needs help. I'm grateful for all of it. 2025 Perri would be super jealous of 2026 Perri. Let's see what I learn in year two!
