Therefore, the main goal for this spa-like bathroom suite was for stress to evaporate upon entering. The result of careful collaboration between Mills Kirk, architecture firm Harrison Design and general contractor McGarrity-Garcia Residential, the all-white retreat is a marble masterpiece. In the same way that the design-build team and homeowners harmonized their efforts, the professionals recognized that each element couldn’t be the star. “Everything in this space is in such balance,” Mills Kirk says. “There’s nothing that jars against anything else, so it is very, very tranquil.” White marble walls and a stunner of a marble-floor rug—which was hand-cut from 16-by-24-inch tiles in a hexagon pattern—achieves a classic, cohesive look. The pickets on the shower floor play off the pattern of the marble rug, sourced from Marmi Natural Stone. Two mirror-image vanity areas were designed by Karpaty Cabinets for his-and-her needs, with a morning bar and fridge concealed on the husband’s side. Thanks to implicit trust from the homeowners, Mills Kirk emphasizes, the design professionals employed quiet but statement-making elements, such as the architectural swoop that defines each vanity. Similarly, for the custom vanity mirrors, the edge floats over the frame, presenting another subtle focal point. “The detail is so precise that it feels almost effortless,” Mills Kirk says. Light-and-airy, motorized shades add to the bathroom’s luxurious nature. “I love walking in that bathroom,” Mills Kirk says.
