summary: "Step 3 covers ELEVATION S60 sheet membrane installation as the primary waterproofing layer, emphasizing correct roll sequencing, lap dimensions, and seam bonding to prevent warranty voidance. The process requires starting at the lowest point, maintaining minimum lap sizes (3 in. side, 6 in. end), staggering end laps, and performing thorough seam inspection to ensure water flows over laps rather than into them."

# Step 3: S60 Membrane Installation and Seam Sequencing

Step 3: S60 Membrane Installation and Seam
Sequencing
Overview
The ELEVATION S60 sheet membrane is the primary waterproofing layer. Correct roll sequencing, lap
dimensions, and seam bonding are critical. A single missed seam or fishmouth at a lap joint will fail a
flood test and void the warranty.
Pre-Installation Checklist
[ ] SP1 primer is tack-free (passed flash-off test from Step 2)
[ ] Rolls are at or above 50F (cold rolls are stiff and hard to bond at laps)
[ ] Layout planned: rolls run perpendicular to the primary slope, toward the drain
[ ] Seam locations avoid drains and scuppers (no seams within 12 in. of a drain)
Roll Sequencing
1. Start at the lowest point (drain or scupper end) and work uphill. Each successive course shingles over
the one below, so water flows over laps rather than into them.
2. Pre-cut rolls to length before peeling the release liner. Work one roll at a time.
3. Align the leading edge of the roll, then peel and press. Do not stretch the membrane.
4. Use a hand roller or weighted roller to apply firm, uniform pressure across the full sheet, including
edges.
Lap Requirements
Side laps (parallel to roll direction): Minimum 3 in.
End laps (perpendicular, roll-to-roll): Minimum 6 in.
Stagger end laps a minimum of 24 in. between adjacent courses. No T-joints.
After pressing, run a seam roller firmly along every lap edge.
Seam Inspection
[ ] All laps are minimum 3 in. (side) and 6 in. (end)

[ ] No fishmouths: lift each lap edge and confirm full contact. Press out any bubbles from the center
outward
[ ] No bridging at inside corners
[ ] End laps staggered, no T-joints
[ ] Seam roller used on all lap edges
[ ] Membrane extends fully onto all primed vertical transitions (minimum 6 in. up curbs and walls)
Drain Integration
Cut the membrane to overlap the drain flange by minimum 2 in. on all sides
Embed the membrane into the drain clamping ring before tightening
Apply membrane pressure around the perimeter of the drain, then tighten the clamping ring per the
drain manufacturer specification
