# AI's Impact on SEO Consultants and Marketing Strategies

Peter Caputa 23h Report this post I think AI is about to wipe out more than half the SEO consultants working today. Even the ones pivoting to AEO. For years, I wanted someone to analyze the Databox website the way I knew it should be done. I went through 3 different SEO consultants. Some talked a good game, but none of them did the analysis the way I thought it should be done. They fell into two camps. The first was too disconnected from our customers and our product roadmap to make good calls about what content to create or update. The second could talk tactics all day but never actually did the math on what was working and what wasn't. One consultant argued with me for an hour about optimizing our site for "embedded analytics." I kept explaining that embedded analytics is a product category we don't sell into, so the traffic would never turn into customers. He understood the keyword volume, but did not have a clue about our customers. Luckily, I don't need an SEO consultant anymore. AI does the things I was paying them for. It runs the analysis, and it helps with the tactical recommendations on what to create, update, optimize and promote. The only thing else that's needed is judgment about the business and our typical customer. And a marketer who knows the business can make those calls with data + AI, without a consultant in the middle. This is how we operate now. A few Claude skills help us do a lot of what a consultant used to do: 1️⃣ Our GA4 Website Traffic & Performance Report. (skill file available free here: https://lnkd.in/ecwxeU7P ) Every week it reads our live GA4 data and writes a structured report: what moved across channels, pages, conversions, and devices, with anomaly flags against a rolling baseline. The wide sweep that tells us what happened and what's off. 2️⃣ Rick Kranz at The AI Marketing Lab built the Content Performance Partner skill. (skill file available free here: https://lnkd.in/eCHfgwdt ) It goes deep on content. It scores every page against the ideal customer profile we define, flags the pages pulling in the wrong audience, and finds the ones with real search demand but almost no clicks, the pages one refresh away from making money. It hands back a prioritized keep, refresh, or retire queue. 3️⃣ A skill that monitors LLM citations and LLM referral traffic. These skills put analysis directly in the hands of our marketing team. We don’t need to wait on an analyst to tell us what to do next. The next step is using that data even earlier in the process and more frequently. Not just to measure content after the fact, but to help us construct better content in the first place. Since AI can analyze why our existing content is winning in seconds: topic, angle, title, hook, key phrases, etc, etc, it can be done as we write. Or as AI helps us write, I should say. Certainly won't need an SEO consultant then. 149 141 Comments Like Comment Share Copy LinkedIn Facebook X Jason W. 18h Report this comment Funny that you targeted SEO considering its demand is higher than ever. People going nuts with AI thinking they don’t need an SEO will find out the hard way. You could say the same for writers. They have been shit on the past two years and they are about to be more valuable than ever IMO. I agree that SEO especially is something that is either done incredibly well or barely at all. There seems to be no middle. Pair that with the ability to ironically Google anything and it seems to be one of those things people tout to be experts in but don’t really know how to do the work. In the event you’re willing to give it another shot and keep a human in the mix who knows how to incorporate AI, rather than use it as a crutch, I cannot recommend Danny Iannelli enough. He’s one of the most intelligent SEO consultants I’ve ever met and work with. His approach blends SEO with broader marketing to ensure it’s all working together. Like Reply 2 Reactions 3 Reactions Ahmed Hassan 56m Report this comment I agree that AI will replace a lot of low value SEO work, especially audits, reporting, keyword clustering, and technical analysis. Those tasks can now be done faster and often better with AI. Where I think experienced SEO professionals still create value is connecting the data to the business. Choosing the right keywords based on revenue, understanding customer intent, building topical authority, improving conversions, and aligning SEO with business goals still requires human judgment. AI is becoming an incredible SEO partner, but the businesses that win will be the ones that combine AI with strategy rather than relying on either one alone. We're actually releasing a mini book on why this month, and how great consultants can build their moat given AI. The one push back I have here is this: relying solely on your marketing team to take the next step with the report can be less effective than having the vantage point of an excellent consultant who can pattern match across the market (cuz they work with so many teams solving the same problem over and over again). Our mini book is called Vantage Point for this reason. It's not that they're more talented than anyone in-house, but they do have a different/potentially broader vantage point that is extremely useful in many situations. Like Reply 1 Reaction Mike Gunawan 18h Report this comment I can relate to this Peter Caputa , that is why I recommend consultants to niche on certain vertical/sub to understand their customer's industry much better, thus understanding their customers and buying journey, together with what content resonates. Would love to hear your thoughts Moonshi Mohsenruddin Naufal Khairuddin Axel Saputra , let's dive deeper into this on Sat, esp on the Content Performance Partner skill and how our platform identifies the relevant Contacts and how they engage the relevant Contacts. Like Reply 3 Reactions 4 Reactions Andrea 🤓 Lechner-Becker 18h Report this comment I love this topic, because as you know, our team is trying to get Databox connected to the sources that would empower teams to do this. And although I love skills, I don't believe a skill (which either queries LLMs directly or uses the API) is robust enough to replace a GEO tracking software. If a team really wanted to replace something like a Profound, they'd be spending more on managing the tech than they'd pay per month. That said, here are the inputs your process is missing: 1. SemRush/Ahrefs: If you want a system that will suggest content opportunity, you need the volumes and competitive intel at scale. 2. Search Console: Your keywords and pages 3. Bing Webmaster: You'll be able to API the search traffic, but the AI traffic (which is the ONLY LLM RN to expose TRUE volume) is only manual 4. GEO monitoring tool: Depending on which you use there might be multiple sources and at various levels (most have their own equation for something like "visibility" - you can export THAT or export raw data and create your own metrics) 5. "Go live date" Finally, don't miss the technical components of SEO/GEO. H1s, H2s, extractable content, these all matter (sometimes a LOT depending on which engine you're optimizing for) Like Reply 2 Reactions 3 Reactions Nicole Grodesky 21h Report this comment I agree with the broader premise. AI is making analysis, audits, and tactical recommendations faster and more accessible than ever. Where I see the role evolving is that SEO becomes less about chasing keywords and more about using search and AI data to understand customers, markets, and brand perception. Keywords still matter. I use them every day because they’re one of the clearest signals of customer demand and intent. But they’re only one piece of the puzzle. The real opportunity is blending keyword insights with AI Visibility, competitive intelligence, and brand messaging to create content that speaks directly to customer pain points while reinforcing what makes a company different. That’s where search shifts from being a traffic channel to a strategic marketing function. AI can uncover opportunities in minutes. The hard part is deciding which opportunities matter, aligning them with business goals, and weaving them into a narrative that earns trust from both people and AI.
