# Bermondsey Beer Mile: Unofficial Introduction (Route Guide)

The Bermondsey Beer Mile: An Unofficial Introduction For those of you who don’t know: the Bermondsey Beer Mile is a loose amalgamation of brewery bars and bottle shops, located along a stretch of railway arch that’s closer to two miles long nowadays. The one thing they have in common is that they’re all open at roughly the same time on a Saturday afternoon, giving those of you who fancy some exercise the chance to indulge in a rather fine pub crawl. As long as you can find your way between all the bars, of course. And this is the problem: because the Mile is something that’s grown organically over a period of years, and there’s no definitive central resource you can consult in order to find out where all the bars are. New ones keep opening, and old ones change location. Virtually all of the documentation of the Mile on the internet consists of one-off blog posts that quickly go out of date. I should know, as I wrote one of those myself back in 2014 , and it’s full of mistakes now. (I’m Spank The Monkey, by the way: I’ve had an arts and entertainment review blog on the internet for over two decades. Most of the words you’re going to see on here are mine, with additional contributions and photography by my pal The Belated Birthday Girl. If you’re curious to see what the Mile looked like in olden days, here are some pictures The BBG took of it back in 2014 .) In the absence of any official site relating to the Mile, we decided to start an unofficial one. We’ll attempt to document all of the bars currently on the route, and how to get between them all: and whenever we hear about any changes we’ll update the site as soon as we can. (You can help with this – feel free to drop us notes in the comments boxes if you find that anything’s altered since we wrote about it. We’ve included links to the official sites of all the bars, which should hopefully have the most up-to-date information.) Here’s the route as it currently stands. (You could start at the other end and work in the opposite direction, but I’ll explain why we’re doing it this way round in the first post.) Links with distances in them will give you a map of how to get there: links with a bar name in bold will take you to a separate page with more details about it. Bars with an asterisk next to their name also brew beer on the same premises. It may be worth checking the Untappd pages of the bars before heading out there, just to check if people have been checking in today, and also what they’ve been drinking. Still, the move appears to have been a success, and we don’t seem to have lost traffic as a result of it. Anyway, there’ve been a few changes in the past nine months, and we’ve updated the site to include them. Moor has moved out, to be replaced by music venue The Blue Monk, which we’re considering outside the remit of the Beer Mile. Gosnells has also moved out, and been replaced by Big Hug Social (who are probably a better fit for the Beer Mile, what with them brewing beer and all). We’ve done the best we can to get the latest version of the opening times for each bar, but obviously that sort of thing can change with very little notice. You’ll also see on this page that we now have an Untappd link for each bar, so you can find out what sort of beers are on offer, and if they’re actually open today or not. (Just trying to help you out here, Battersea Substation .) We’ve also updated a few of the photos and the odd bar report. Finally, the reason why we’ve chosen today to break our silence is because the site was launched on July 14th 2018, so it’s our eighth birthday today. Thanks for all your support over that time! Now, please drink responsibly. We are a pizza shop with a bar inside, we used to make pizza on the blue volkswagen van outside the arch, which is now transformed into a cocktail bar, plus we sell crafted beers! Why don’t you come and visit us? It would be a pleasure for us! Love the may you’ve made a step-by-step guide and a documented each stop so well and evocatively. Myself and a few friends are working on an app called Bar-Trek – it’s dedicated to keeping our pub scene alive and supported. It’s a web-app at the moment so nothing to install and it’s also free. I’ve created the crawl the Bermondsey Beer Mile that you’ve documented here so well as a crawl in Bar-Trek – here’s the link – https://www.bar-trek.com/crawl/461 As you’ll see, I’ve fully credited you two as the owners and creators and linked it back to this fine website. Take a look around the site – we should have most of the venues in in the UK. It’s a doddle to create your own crawl – just find a venue, click “Add to Crawl”, find the next venue and repeat. Once a crawl is created, you can save it, share it and edit it. Have a play and let me know what you think Like Like Reply Aaron March 14, 2025 Midpoint food is now at the other side of the arches. Cloudwater has food, Ong Ong Buns is a bakery – milk bread filled with char siu, custard, kimchi, sausage etc – and Kernal has a Japanese kitchen. Went there the other day, it’s genuinely insane: classic pub food with asian twist, they also have a £30 per person 3 course set menu offer which is absolutely a bargain given London prices! They are also showing Fifa world cup this summer, which is just perfect. I’m not one to brag about places but I went there and I think it’ll be my new local favourite place. We are looking to go this Saturday in the evening but weren’t sure if many places would still be open. thanks Like Like Reply Leave a Reply Cancel reply Comment Name Email Website Δ Loading Comments...
