In their first Netflix deal for The Rip, Ben, Matt, and President of Business Affairs and Strategy Andrew Gumpert negotiated a performance-based bonus pool so all ~1,200 cast and crew members (not just above-the-line talent) can share in the upside if the film performs well — an intentional break from the typical “flat fee, no backend” streaming model. It is bold and wise because it is aligned with two of Nature's most powerful and ancient wisdom principles: Systems Thinking and Collaboration. In living systems, which we and our companies are, like a forest, where nourishment flows through the network, not just to the tallest trees, success is always co-created. Giving back, nourishes the whole system so it can be resilient in the face of a quickly changing world and optimize for success at every level. This is leadership for the future and it is super exciting to see. If they acted like their own businesses instead of subsidiaries for the industry. * More global diverse programming. Selecting indie films from the thousands of worldwide festivals. Many that have gained audience acclaim and awards are being ignored by cinemas. * Community engagement. Building your brand through local partnerships and collaborations. This provides word of mouth promotion and opportunities for cross-collab events, as well as extensions — screenings outside of your venue. These solutions can help the ‘localisation’ in communities (jobs) and help impact other businesses in your area. In addition, if indie films are given opportunities in cinemas, more films that represent your audiences can produced. #facts Cinema United #indiefilms #cinemas #sustainability #filmindustry 6 Melissa FilmProposals www.filmproposals.com • 1K followers Investor Relations: Building Trust in the Indie Film World 🎬🤝 Securing film financing is more than just numbers on a spreadsheet. For independent filmmakers, strong investor relationships are pivotal to project success. Investors are not only funding your creative vision, they are entering into a partnership built on transparency, professionalism, and trust. Effective communication, realistic financial projections, and a well-structured business plan can help you stand out in a competitive industry. Demonstrating clear value and reporting progress regularly are crucial steps in fostering long-term support for future projects. 1. Communicate proactively: Keep your investors informed about milestones and challenges. 2. Provide regular updates: Share progress reports that reflect real results and fiscal responsibility. 3. Showcase professionalism: Deliver organized business documents to inspire confidence and credibility. #filminvesting #independentfilm #investorrelations Franky Arriola 25K followers Creators and digital nomads are no longer choosing where to live based on lifestyle alone—they’re choosing cities that help them earn more, expand networks, and build scalable businesses in 2026. https://lnkd.in/eUiTzPHg Andrew Kahn 7K followers We’re thrilled to lead Jeff Ponchick and Joey Mason’s seed round and to support their vision for Mogul, a fintech platform bringing transparency and trust to royalty income earners. And we're excited to do it alongside new friends Julie Lein and Andrew Felbinger from Urban Innovation Fund, longtime friends at Mindset Ventures and Fairway Partners, and their original investors - two of LA's best - Amplify.LA and Wonder Ventures. Conor Healy and I have known Jeff Ponchick and Joey Mason since before they sold their last company, Repost Network, to Soundcloud. They are proven builders with deep industry credibility. We tracked Mogul for some time, growing increasingly impressed by their decision to begin by solving the hardest problem first: building robust infrastructure and a comprehensive first-party data pipeline that others have tried to mimic algorithmically. They're now tracking $1.5B in earnings, including for some of the biggest music artists on the planet, and starting to demonstrate the potential value of a single source of truth in a notoriously opaque space. We will release our investment memo in the coming days in our Notes 🎶 Newsletter, so subscribe to get our full POV on where we think Mogul will go from here (link in my bio). cc: Andrés Lauer Daniel Ibri Lucas Cantor Santiago Dustin Rosen Valentina R. Still early compared to SF and NY, which is the opportunity. Who are the next Florida-based funds or angels getting active? 4 3 Comments Kevin Williams KWP Limited • 10K followers KWP #TrendWatch - Breaking - Confirmation that Netflix will acquire Warner Bros. The National Applied AI Consortium AI Summit, hosted at Miami Dade College and powered by the National Science Foundation and Google.org, brought together more than 500 educators, policymakers, and industry leaders to strengthen the nation’s AI workforce through community colleges. With over 40 panels and 100+ speakers, the event reflected a powerful national movement: collaboration between education and industry to ensure opportunity is not limited by geography or background. Community colleges are not watching the AI revolution from the sidelines — they are building the pipeline. Camera: Alfonso Kohn who also presented his AI project. Netflix just released THE RIP — a film set in Miami (Hialeah) starring Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. Directed by Joe Carnahan. Written by Joe Carnahan (story by Carnahan + Michael McGrale). Reported $100M budget. Produced under Artists Equity. Distributed by Netflix. And to be clear: the picture is excellent. And Florida still didn’t get the production. But here’s what makes this even more telling: It doesn’t even look like Miami. Not even close. That’s what happens when productions can’t justify shooting here. Miami becomes a label — not a location. A storyline — not an economy. Because the decision isn’t based on “authenticity.” It’s based on incentives. New Jersey has real film tax credits. Florida doesn’t. MIAMI-DADE COUNTY: Yes, there’s a 20% local incentive — but the budget cap makes it non-competitive for major productions. It’s a start. It’s not a solution. A $100M film doesn’t move for a limited local program. It moves for a bankable, statewide incentive structure. TALLAHASSEE: With respect — Florida is getting left behind. Other states aren’t hoping for production. They’re building repeatable systems that bring it in, keep it there, and scale it. Miami has the global recognition. But without a real statewide film & TV tax credit, we’re going to keep watching Miami stories get shot somewhere else… …and looking less like Miami every time. ⸻ DISCLAIMER: The Rip is distributed by Netflix and produced under Artists Equity. This post is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Netflix, Artists Equity, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Joe Carnahan, Michael McGrale, or any associated entities. This all-cash transaction is the largest leveraged buyout in history and is set to deliver significant strategic advantages to all parties. Benefits for PIF and Saudi Arabia This acquisition is a major step in Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 plan to diversify its economy. The key benefits include: • Economic Diversification & Industry Growth: The deal fast-tracks the growth of a national gaming and esports industry, aiming to contribute over $13 billion to the GDP and create 39,000 jobs by 2030. • Global Influence: Ownership of EA's world-renowned intellectual properties like EA SPORTS FC™ and Battlefield enhances Saudi Arabia's cultural "soft power" and influence in the global entertainment sector. • Strategic Synergy: EA's portfolio complements PIF's existing gaming investments (like ESL and Scopely), creating a powerful, integrated ecosystem across development, esports, and mobile gaming. Benefits for Electronic Arts (EA) Going private under this new ownership provides EA with several key advantages: • Long-Term Focus: Freed from the pressures of the public market, EA can prioritize long-term investment in ambitious and innovative projects. • Accelerated Growth: The acquisition provides significant capital to fuel growth, drive innovation, and expand EA's global reach, especially in mobile gaming. • New Opportunities: The deal unlocks new synergies by combining EA's IP with the new owners' expertise in entertainment, sports, and technology, with stable leadership continuing under CEO Andrew Wilson. Impact on the Gaming Industry This historic acquisition underscores the immense value of the interactive entertainment sector. It sets a new precedent for investment and is expected to spur further consolidation as other major companies reassess their positions in the evolving market. #saudiArabia #PIF #EA 18 1 Comment Mark Williamson The ROSTR Group • 18K followers Having spent the better part of a decade at Spotify, there's things I like about streaming/Spotify's impact and things I don't... But, one thing is for sure, we wouldn't be seeing catalogs having nearly this much value without streaming. Value accrual might still be top heavy w/ the biggest artists but the recurring model is undeniable for artists who are able to build audience over time. 36 4 Comments Anna Chernyak WE ARE DREAMERS (WAD 360 SL) • 959 followers 91% of music released today is independent. But most chart-topping Latin hits still come from major label ecosystems. Why? Because scale matters. Majors bring infrastructure, playlists, marketing...and now they’re partnering with top indie-born stars (Bizarrap, Bad Bunny, Quevedo). Meanwhile, smart indies use lean strategies, data, and global networks to punch above their weight. In 2025, the smartest players will be hybrid: agile like indies, powerful like majors. Are you building the right alliances? #IndieArtists #MajorLabels #LatinMusic #MusicIndustry #ArtistStrategy 5 Ben Keen Looper Insights • 15K followers I'm excited that Hallstone Ventures has announced the final close of Fund I much faster than anticipated. Gray Slate Entertainment • 1K followers Watched El Mariachi last night. A $7,000 film made almost single-handedly by Robert Rodriguez and still one of the most inspiring case studies for independent filmmakers. What stands out isn’t just the budget, but the mindset: do as much as you can on your own. Write, shoot, edit, improvise. Build a team of hungry interns and collaborators who believe in the process as much as the outcome. When people feel they’re part of something meaningful, they show up differently. He did this in 1992. Today, in 2026, the barriers are even lower. Digital filmmaking, accessible gear, endless learning resources, and multiple distribution platforms have made it easier than ever to create. Yes, distribution is still the hardest part. But if you take a page from creators like Nukkad Naatak, meeting your audience where they are, adapting, persisting there’s always a way through. The tools have evolved. The challenge hasn’t. And neither has the opportunity. 2 Philippe Guelton Canela Media • 8K followers Exciting news at our upfront lunch today: Canela Media is entering the micro-dramas market with the launch of the ZULLY app. Check out Isabel Rafferty Zavala's note below. 8 1 Comment Show more posts Show fewer posts Explore top content on LinkedIn Find curated posts and insights for relevant topics all in one place.
