I have had a soft spot in my heart for Manuka Honey ever since I traveled to New Zealand in 2010. I was working with the New Zealand Government to bring Manuka honey to the U.S. For those who haven’t heard, this type of honey has unique characteristics and extraordinary healing properties, specifically anti-inflammatory and antibacterial. I use it in my tea when I have a sore throat. Coming out of a bout with COVID, it was particularly helpful to soothe my throat. I am extremely proud of Michael Bell for bringing this fabulous product and all of its science to US consumers. So, I put together a simplified case study. Bob runs a construction business through a Queensland company, Total Build Pty Ltd, with turnover under $10m. The business purchases a 2025 RAM 3500 Laramie for $190,290 on 1 April 2025 and finances the full amount. Bob uses the vehicle throughout the week to carry bulky tools and tow machinery between job sites. After completing a digital logbook using GoFar, his business use works out to 71.43%. The vehicle is also used privately on weekends and holidays (including towing Bob’s caravan and boat), meaning the minor and infrequent private use exemption cannot apply. Instead, the private portion is calculated and reimbursed back to the company each year before the end of the FBT year. First 12 months – tax outcome Based on the assumptions in this case study: · GST credits available on vehicle purchase: $16,407 · GST credits available on operating costs: $988 · Income tax benefit from "tax" depreciation: $6,520 · Income tax benefit from operating costs: $1,630 · Less adjustments for private use (GST + income tax): ($6,467) Net tax outcome (GST + income tax + FBT): $19,079 tax benefit in year one Because Bob reimburses the private portion to the company before 31 March, the FBT taxable value is reduced to nil. I’ve attached the basis for calculations to this post for anyone interested in some of the mechanics but I did not include the very detailed spreadsheet. Curious to hear from others. Are these larger vehicles gaining traction in the business landscape? 3 4 Comments Food & Drink Business 18K followers LARK Distilling Co has reported continued top-line growth in 1H FY26, with net sales revenue (after excise) rising 10 per cent to $8.7 million, as the Tasmanian whisky producer prepares for a coordinated domestic and international rollout of its restaged portfolio in the second half. https://lnkd.in/geKdRRwr 23 1 Comment Wayne Pearson Pearson Automotive Consulting • 869 followers Eagers have just published their 6 months results . I made a similar comment when they published their last full year results but these results reflect a redefining of dealership retail operations and are a road map of the future . When I read these results I had the same feeling I had 6 months ago , it’s like these guys have jumped into my head and are implementing all the things that i firmly believe need to change if dealers are to survive and prosper into the future . Anyone who reads my comments know that cost of delivery ( operations ) should be driving mantra of all dealerships . Don’t sack the yardie , driving up revenue per person and per sqm is the only way to reduce costs and lock in a sustainable 3 to 4 % NPS . 2 numbers jumped out of the Eagers result , revenue per person of $1.5m pa and operating costs of 12% are absolute stand outs . These guys don’t sell lots of fancy ,expensive cars , so the $1.5m per person is an exceptional number , this can only be done by : 1) feeding the runners 2) outsourcing or replacing with technology non gross generating roles 3) making process DNA , moving away from person centric processes to business centric processes ( you don’t throw away the process when you change the management) 12% cost base , which I hazard to guess would be 3% below the average 15% ( let that sink in , that’s a 3% NPS advantage to everyone else ) comes from reducing the key 80% of dealership costs , people and property . Less people doing more and better business on less real estate . It’s a permanent saving and competitive advantage. People will say , it’s ok for them , they are big . My view is you don’t need to be big to be better , you just need to kill some sacred cows . You need to dictate real estate terms , not the OEM , if they don’t like it , go find another , there are plenty out there . People metrics matter , 100 units per sales manager , 20 units per consultant , 20 ROs per advisor , 100 ROs per workshop . These are minimum acceptable standards , structure your brands to create that outcome . If people aren’t directly creating gross , ask yourself can this role be automated or outsourced , people are expensive . Look at their used car net profit per unit , this is no fluke , nor is it massive gross per unit . This is reducing cost of delivery per unit below $1,000 and spending time on incremental income . Don’t believe you can’t because you aren’t big , this result is great strategy implemented 200 times , you just can’t do it without killing sacred cows and changing the status quo . 20 Antony Allen The Avolution • 3K followers The Australian avocado industry now exports to more markets than at any point in its history. That’s worth acknowledging. But here’s the question that doesn’t get asked enough: which of those markets are actually paying? In 2024–25, the spread between the highest and lowest-returning export destinations for Australian avocados exceeded 85%. Same fruit. Same season. Same exporters. Vastly different per-kilogram outcomes depending on where the container was headed. The industry measures access — markets reached, weeks supplied, trays shipped. Those are real achievements. Destination performance asks the harder question: what did each market actually return? In 2023, exports surged 55% year-on-year. Average prices fell 9%. The market absorbed what we sent it. It didn’t pay for it. In 2024, volumes were flat. Prices recovered 13%. Same markets. Less pressure. Better returns. 52 weeks of supply is an impressive milestone. 52 weeks of returns data is the one that matters. #AustralianAvocados #ExportStrategy #MarketIntelligence #FreshProduce #Agribusiness Gunjan Allen Daryl Boardman Sally Boardman Andrew McKillop Dan Cork David Rocha Manujith Samantha (Sam) Steven Newman Deepak Vasa Flora Zhang Gemma Burger Sources: IndexBox Australian Avocado Export Prices by Destination (2024); Rabobank Global Avocado Outlook (2024/25); Avocados Australia industry data 30 Kapitales Research 1K followers Domino’s Pizza Enterprises Limited (ASX: DMP) shares slipped about 1.02% to $18.875, despite notable insider buying activity. Over the past few months we’ve been quietly supplying 100% real fruit powders into Australian food brands — and it’s exciting to see where they’re showing up. 🍋 Lemon pepper rubs 🍓 Strawberry collagen drinks 🍩 Lemon dusting on donuts 🌶️ Chilli & lime snack blends 🧂 Citrus finishing salts 🍗 Citrus stuffing mixes for the classic supermarket roast chook (think @mitaniproducts) For food manufacturers and product developers, fruit powders solve a simple problem: How to deliver real fruit flavour without the challenges of fresh fruit. ✔ Shelf stable ✔ Consistent flavour ✔ Reduced waste ✔ Easy to scale in production A big part of what drives us is working with growers to give value to fruit that may not meet supermarket cosmetic standards — turning it into high-quality ingredients rather than letting it go to waste. What excites me most is the potential beyond retail products. Real fruit powders can support: • Food manufacturers developing new products • Foodservice suppliers creating seasoning blends and menu ingredients • Catering operations preparing meals at scale • Hospital and aged-care kitchens • NDIS and community meal providers • Schools and institutional catering When fruit can become a stable ingredient, the opportunities expand quickly. From seasoning blends to beverages, baking mixes, snacks and ready meals — the potential applications keep growing. We’re already working with Australian brands and ingredient users and are now expanding supply into larger food manufacturing and foodservice channels, where consistent, real fruit ingredients are needed at scale. If you're exploring ways to incorporate real fruit ingredients into large-scale production, I’d love to start a conversation. The world of food innovation is wide open — and when it comes to fruit ingredients, the possibilities really are endless. #FoodManufacturing #FoodService #Ingredients #ProductDevelopment #FoodInnovation #CleanLabel #AustralianFood #FoodWaste #MitaniProducts #SmokeyJoesRubs #TheCountryChefBakery #VerveIngredients Anthony Kachenko Vanouhi Nazarian Jane Milburn OAM Chris Downs 40 2 Comments Rodgers & Co Ltd - Chartered Accountants & Business Advisors 153 followers 10 Ways to Avoid Business Liquidation Cash flow issues—not profitability—are the #1 reason Kiwi businesses go under. But how do you know HOW MUCH product you should get after that initial order? A practical way to do that is base it on sales velocity, not on the unit price you're trying to hit per can. Katrina Dalao reminded me of this great 3 step calculation: 1. Start with the retailer: Most retailers want 70–80% of shelf life remaining when product arrives. If your drink has a 12-month shelf life, you effectively have ~9 months to sell it. 2. Subtract logistics: Co-packer lead time, distributor pickup, and warehouse time usually take 2–3 months. Now your real selling window is 6–7 months. 3. Multiply by velocity: Stores × units per store per week × weeks in your window = units you can move. If that number is bigger than your run size, you can scale up. If it’s smaller, run less. — Hi, I’m James Purcell. I’m building Drinks 101 - an Academy and Advisory business for the drinks industry. Let's talk FBT! ⚡ There's been a lot of buzz around purchasing EVs as employee benefits to navigate around Fringe Benefits Tax, and yes - there are some fantastic carve-outs available for electric vehicles. But here's what many business owners don't realise: it's not a blanket exemption for all EVs. One key requirement is that the vehicle must cost less than the luxury car limit for EVs (around $95,000 for 2025). If your chosen EV exceeds this threshold, it won't be exempt from FBT - regardless of its environmental benefits. This is exactly why I always encourage my clients to reach out before making any significant business purchases. Understanding the legislation upfront can save you from unexpected tax implications down the track. The EV landscape is evolving rapidly, and while the benefits can be substantial, the devil is definitely in the details. Getting your strategy right from the start makes all the difference to your bottom line. Planning an EV purchase for your business? Having recently joined the EV community via a novated lease, here are the main reasons for my decision: 💲Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) Exemption for EVs - EVs under $91,387 are exempt from FBT, making them significantly cheaper to lease through a novated lease. - This exemption applies to both new and eligible used EVs, broadening the range of affordable options. 💰 Pre-Tax Salary Deductions - Lease payments and running costs (like insurance, servicing, and registration) are deducted from pre-tax income, reducing taxable income and increasing take-home pay. 🚗 Lower Running Costs - EVs typically have lower maintenance costs and cheaper fuel (electricity) compared to petrol or diesel vehicles. - These savings compound over the lease term, making EVs more economical in the long run. 📦 Bundled Expenses - All vehicle-related costs can be bundled into one regular payment, simplifying budgeting and cash flow management. 💻 Access to New Technology - Shorter lease terms (2–3 years) allow employees to upgrade to newer EV models as technology evolves. In doing my research I created a calculator that compares petrol cars v EV's, if you are looking to purchase a new car and want me to run some numbers for you, send me a message. #electricvehicles #fbt #tax #accounting #xero #melbourne #victoria #sustainability 21 3 Comments Carolyn Etherington Australian Trade and… • 2K followers The latest Wine Australia Export Report (Dec 2025) reflects a broader global reset in wine consumption, with many markets seeing softer demand as consumers drink less, trade down, or shift toward moderation and alternative beverages.
