Jessalyn Friske on Instagram: "Post 1 of 2: Eugenia Williams was born in 1900 in Knoxville, TN. In 1902, her father Dr. David H. Williams invested in a local Cola-Cola franchise, which lead to great wealth. However, as Eugenia was growing up ,her younger siblings and mother passed away, leaving Eugenia and her father as the only surviving members of the family. In 1916, the remaining Williams moved from downtown Knoxville to what was then the country and lived in a brick two-story farmhouse on the 24 acre Lyons View Pike property, complete with a vegetable garden and an orchard. Eugenia lived there until she married R. Gordon Chandler in 1920. In 1929, Eugenia’s father passed away, and she inherited the property and moved back there with Gordon. However, Eugenia’s marriage did not last, and they were divorced in 1936. After the divorce, Eugenia removed the gardens her father had installed in favor of a more natural landscape. In 1938, Eugenia had a stable built on the property that was designed by the local architecture firm, Barber & McMurry, to accomodate her love of horse riding. She then decided she would built her own house on the property, tore down her father’s home, and hired John F. Staub to design her a 10,600 sf Regency Revival style home, which was completed in 1941.
