These places popped up around train stations post war, as the US authorities tried to clamp down on the black market. Many of the early Yokocho’s were essentially brothels. Those days are long gone, but Yokocho’s still have a slightly elicit feel about them, which is part of their charm. The easiest bar to start (and find) is Albatross B.
