Step 6: Membrane Cure and Hold Point Before
Next Layer 
Overview 
This is a mandatory hold point. No drainage mat, protection board, or topping may be installed until the
membrane has fully cured and a visual inspection is completed. Placing weight or traffic on an uncured
membrane causes adhesion failures and punctures. 
Cure Requirements 
Minimum cure time: 24 hours at 70F and 50% relative humidity 
At lower temperatures or higher humidity: Extend cure time. At 50F, allow minimum 48 hours.
Below 40F, membrane will not cure. Stop work. 
No rain or standing water during the cure window. If rain occurs, inspect the membrane after it
dries and before proceeding. 
No foot traffic on the cured membrane except for the inspector. Use plywood walk boards if access
is needed. 
Cure Verification 
Visual: membrane surface should appear uniform in color and sheen. Dull or chalky spots may
indicate incomplete cure or primer issues. 
Touch test: membrane should feel firm and non-tacky 
Probe test: press a blunt tool (pen cap) into the membrane surface. The surface should not indent
permanently.
