## **Favorites Fall, Underdogs Book the Final**

**The Scoreboard**
Five calls, two hits, and a week where being the favorite was basically a target on your back. The market had England going to the final. Nope. It had France going to the final. Also nope. The Wimbledon women’s favorite went home without the trophy, and the inflation market guessed so high it never even got in the neighborhood of the real number. The two teams playing for it all on Sunday, Spain and Argentina, are the same two the market treated as second-best in their semifinals. When the most reliable thing all week was Jannik Sinner doing Jannik Sinner things, you know the rest of the board had a rough one.

**The Calls**

🔴 MISS — England to reach the final (Kalshi 54% YES)
Kalshi gave England a 54% shot at finally snapping the 60-year drought. Argentina beat them 2-1 in Atlanta, and the clock now runs another four years. Anthony Gordon got one back, then Thomas Tuchel sat deep, gave Lionel Messi all the space in the world, and apparently hoped a five-time Ballon d’Or winner would get bored. He didn’t. Priced like a coin toss, played out like a wake. Sixty years becomes sixty-four.

🟢 HIT — Argentina to beat Switzerland (Kalshi 75% YES)
Finally, a favorite that showed up and clocked in. Kalshi had the defending champions at 75% for the quarterfinal, and they handled a ten-man Switzerland 3-1 without breaking a sweat. No extra time, no shootout, no nail-biting. Chalk backers got the rare luxury of watching the rest of the week fall apart with their feet up.

🟢 HIT — Sinner to win Wimbledon (Kalshi 83% YES)
The safest seat in the house all fortnight. Sinner took down Alexander Zverev in four sets to go back-to-back at Wimbledon, and it’s now ten wins in a row over the same opponent. That’s not a rivalry anymore, that’s a standing appointment. Kalshi never let it slip under 83%. Dull pick, dull finish, and a peaceful night’s sleep for everyone holding it.

🔴 MISS — Muchova to win the Wimbledon women’s final (-134, ~57%)
The sportsbooks liked Karolina Muchova at -134 against fellow Czech Linda Noskova at +112. Noskova had other plans. She won 6-2, 5-7, 6-3, let five championship points slip away in the second set just to rattle everyone’s nerves, then steadied herself and closed out her first Grand Slam. The odds promised a routine win for the favorite. The final delivered a brand-new champion.

🔴 MISS — June CPI to land at 3.8% or higher (Kalshi ~71% combined)
Traders were braced for heat. 3.8% was the top pick at 47%, and the market put roughly 71% combined on a print of 3.8% or above. The actual number? 3.5%. That’s under every bucket anyone bothered pricing, sailing right past the 3.7% floor that was supposed to be the low end. Cheaper gas did the heavy lifting, the whole board leaned too hot, and your grocery bill caught a rare break.

**Biggest Whiff of the Week 🔴**
France, the 41% semifinal favorite over Spain and a ~17% co-favorite for the title all year long.

Polymarket had France ahead going into the semi, 41% to Spain’s 29%, and France answered with the most costly disappearing act of the whole tournament. Spain won 2-0, and France walked off with an expected-goals total of 0.31, which is less a threat and more a polite suggestion. Kylian Mbappé was jogging through the final minutes, the attack produced nothing resembling a real chance, and a side the market had propped up as a serious contender for a full year went out without throwing a punch. Twelve months of backing French firepower, and when the moment came, they showed up with a squirt gun.

**Best Call of the Week 🟢**
Spain priced at just 29% to win their own semifinal.

Polymarket ranked Spain’s win as the third-likeliest result against France, trailing both a French win and a draw. Spain then won 2-0, having let in a single goal across the entire tournament, and jumped straight to 61% favorites for the final. The people who bought in weren’t just fading the reigning European champions at 29 cents. They were trusting a back line that has spent a month making the world’s best forwards look completely ordinary. It didn’t look obvious before kickoff. It looks painfully obvious now, and that’s exactly the game.

**Now Open — go vote**
Everything this month has been building toward Sunday. Three to call:

**Spain win the World Cup final?** Kickoff is tomorrow, July 19, and it’s already the largest single prediction market ever: more than $1.27 billion on the Spain-Argentina contract on Kalshi alone, inside a World Cup that’s pulled in $29 billion across platforms and makes the Super Bowl’s betting handle look like a tip jar. Spain sits around 61% behind the tournament’s stingiest defense; Argentina has Messi and a crown to protect. — yes or no, and why.

**The Pitt to win Best Drama at the Emmys?** Nominations dropped this week, and HBO Max’s hospital drama topped the field with 25. Kalshi already has it at a crushing 87% for the big prize. When a frontrunner is this heavy, the only real question left is whether anything can knock it off course. — yes or no, and why.

**Will the Fed cut rates at all in 2026?** Last week’s question, turned on its head. Two weeks back, people were worried about a hike. Now, after weak jobs data and a cooler 3.5% CPI, Polymarket has “zero cuts in 2026” sitting around 79%, betting the Fed just sits on its hands for the rest of the year. Is this week’s soft number the thing that changes that? — yes or no, and why.

Catch you next week, after the final whistle. The favorites went down one after another, France forgot to bring any ammunition, and the two teams the market doubted are the last ones left. Vamos, or vámonos — somebody’s packing their bags tomorrow night.
