Davis and a group of dedicated local researchers, the Museum began as a mission to document and protect Staten Island’s native plant and animal life—and that spirit of discovery and preservation still guides its work today. Alongside its extensive natural science collection, the Museum presents dynamic rotating exhibitions that illuminate global themes through a distinctly local lens. Visitors can experience everything from Staten Island’s suffragists to presentations of local Staten Island artists, to the powerful history of Black nurses who broke racial barriers in Staten Island while caring for tuberculosis patients. A permanent World Art Gallery anchors the Museum’s commitment to showcasing creativity across cultures, while ever-changing exhibitions invite visitors to see connections between the natural world, artistic expression, and community history. Discover a place where curiosity thrives and every visit reveals something new. Location Where The Staten Island Museum is located in Building A. The main entrance is accessible via the front door on the front lawn along Richmond Terrace. Groups are advised to enter via the side entrance, which faces west. The Staten Island Museum’s archival facilities are located in the ground floor of Building H. The archives are accessible by appointment only.
