The Campbell Station Inn, or the Avery Russell House, is a pretty noticeable Federal style house at the intersection of Campbell Station Road and Kingston Pike. The current house was built by Samuel Martin around 1835 who ran an inn out of it. The area was named Campbell Station (founded in 1787) after the Campbell cousins (Col. David Campbell owned the land the house was built on). Samuel Martin sold the house to Matthew Russell in 1858. Matthew passed the house onto Robert Russell (his nephew), who passed the home onto his son, Avery Russell. The battle of Campbell Station was fought in 1863, and the house was used as a hospital during the battle. After the Civil War, Avery renovated the house. The Russells operated a dairy on the property at one point. The Town of Farragut bought the house from Avery's son in 2012 and finished renovating the exterior of the house in 2019. The adjacent park was completed in 2020, and the Town is now pondering uses for the interior, which will factor into the interior renovation.
