# Stop 7: Big Hug Social, 72 Enid Street

Big Hug Social Location: 72 Enid Street Opening hours: Saturday 1400-2300 Other days: Sunday 1400-2100, Wednesday 1600-2100, Thursday 1400-2100, Friday 1400-2300 Official site: https://www.bighugbrewing.com/bighugsocial Last updated: 14/07/2026 The story here starts on the page for Gosnells , who were at this address up until May 2026. Out of nowhere, they announced they were closing down their Peckham brewery and Bermondsey taproom, and farming out the work they were doing to partner companies. To quote a post on the Gosnells website, “From this summer, Big Hug Brewing will be taking over the day-to-day running of our Bermondsey taproom and making it their South London home. They make fantastic independent beer, have built a brilliant reputation, and have been looking for the right London site for a while. It felt like a natural fit from the start. Gosnells isn’t disappearing from Bermondsey though — you’ll still find our drinks pouring on site alongside whatever lovely things Big Hug are brewing up.” So it looks like Gosnells still have some vague connection to 72 Enid Street, and you can find the odd mead or two on sale there amongst the twelve taps on offer. But let’s focus on Big Hug themselves, who we were fairly unfamiliar with until literally a fortnight before our first visit to the bar. We were in Peckham to see Warrington-Runcorn New Town Development Plan – if that sentence makes no sense to you, you should do the research – and found that the only decent beers on tap at the IKLECTIK venue were Big Hug’s Juicy Pale and Hibernation white IPA. Both are on offer here, along with several others. Big Hug’s big deal is that they’re a social enterprise, with profits being distributed to charities all over the place. Their core range of beers raise money for homeless charity Only A Pavement Away, while their partnership with OneTribe is helping to save trees (and hopefully doing that more effectively than BrewDog ever did). The preachiness is there in quite small print on the tap list, but it shows their hearts are in the right place. As for the venue, it hasn’t gone through much of a refurb since the Gosnells days – the bar is still nicely positioned in the centre of the archway with plenty of space for punters at either end, and a bit more on the pavement for when it’s a nice day. It’s probably the loudest venue on Enid Street, with some interestingly left-field hip-hop on the stereo, but not so loud as to get in the way of conversation. They’re obviously trying to make their presence felt in the early days of their time on the Mile, and so far it seems to be working. No kitchen on site, but Klementino’s Pizza will be happy to deliver to your table from three doors down.
