# Most Founders Blow the VC Meeting

Andrew Boos 2mo Report this post Most founders blow the VC meeting before they even sit down. Here's what actually works. 👇 I've been in rooms where founders had better products than the companies that got funded and still walked out empty-handed. The difference wasn't the deck. It wasn't the TAM slide. It wasn't even the team. It was that they couldn't answer the one question every investor is actually asking: "Is this person worth betting on?" Here's what I've seen work and what I wish someone had told me early: 1. Lead with the gap, not the product. Investors fund problems, not solutions. Open with the market reality, not your feature list. 2. Know your numbers cold and admit what you don't know. Fake confidence kills deals. Investors have seen 10,000 pitches. They know when you're winging it. 3. Show momentum, not potential. Traction beats vision every time. Even small signals matter: retention, referrals, paying customers who renewed. 4. Make the ask specific. "We're raising $2M to hire a GTM lead and extend runway 18 months" closes rooms. Vague asks open nothing. 5. Treat it like a qualification call, not an audition. The best founders are evaluating investors too. That posture changes everything. If you're heading into a fundraise and your GTM motion isn't locked, you're going to struggle to answer the hard questions. That's exactly what we fix at Darwinian Ventures. It's like, Hey, I did this and that I come from this background. Great to meet you. Oh, how did we meet? We met through so and so I really enjoy his perspective on whatever you know. Oh, I've heard of your firm great thing like you, but but then you talk about your own your own background in the way that supports this thesis that. You're very capable and you have a really brilliant insight into something chances are. The VC has already seen the opening in the economy, like they've already mapped it out. So you're really just explaining to them in your introduction why you're the person who saw it. Well, and that you're very capable and that you're trustworthy. So that's your intro. So that's maybe 3 or 4 minutes, right? Excuse me.
