You spend twenty years being exceptional at something visible. The deals, the transformations, the rooms you walked into and changed. People watch. They form a picture in their mind. And that picture gets fixed. It's fixed in their minds, in their introductions, in how they refer you to others. 𝘚𝘩𝘦'𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘻𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘪𝘴 𝘣𝘳𝘰𝘬𝘦𝘯. 𝘏𝘦'𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘳. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴. It's not wrong. It's just old. Because what your network locked in on was your output. What they missed - and what you probably missed too - was the underlying capability producing it. The specific way you think. The problems that make you sharper rather than tired. The conditions where your judgment is at its best. That's not in their picture of you. It was never visible enough to capture. So when you're figuring out what comes next, and you're leaning on your network for intelligence - be careful. They'll reflect back a version of you that fit your last container. They'll refer you to things that look like what you just left. The Second Act doesn't come from your network's picture of you.
