In 1947, the little library moved to a new municipal building. To increase services and resources for the community, the City of Port Orchard joined the… Port Orchard’s public library service began in 1924 inside the Town Hall. In 1947, the little library moved to a new municipal building. To increase services and resources for the community, the City of Port Orchard joined the Kitsap Regional Library system in 1964. Soon, additional space was needed for the library, and the City purchased the old town post office for library use. This location is still in use, with privately funded additions and remodels being completed in 1995 and 2013. The City of Port Orchard owns and maintains the Port Orchard branch, while Kitsap Regional Library provides services, staff, and collections. The Port Orchard branch is also home to the Port Orchard Friends of the Library, a volunteer, nonprofit group that raises funds for library maintenance and programs through used book sales and fundraising events. While Kitsap Regional Library spaces are free, some rooms are owned by community partners who may charge fees for their use. Use of a meeting room does not constitute an endorsement or sponsorship by Kitsap Regional Library of a program or points of view expressed within the program. Reserve Online Community Room Amenities: Six tables, 38 chairs, public Wi-Fi, sink, one countertop, a TV with an HDMI port, one mobile whiteboard, and an accordion wall divider. (Minor interruptions may occur.) Reservations: Individuals or groups may make up to 12 reservations per calendar year.
