# Something Shifted in the Last Year

Carly Vivian 4mo Report this post Something shifted in the last year. LHH's 2026 View from the C-Suite report, out this week (see link in the comments), found that 58% of late-career executive have no plans to leave their roles in the next three years. That number was 11% last year. A near-complete reversal in twelve months. The people at the top are staying. And the pressure on them is intensifying, not easing. Three things in the data are worth paying attention to. • 𝗔𝗜 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 jumped seven places to become the #1 skill gap - nearly half of executives now name it a top priority. • For the second consecutive year, lack of 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 is the leading constraint on leadership effectiveness. • And 1 in 4 senior leaders say their 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻-𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 processes don't adequately support what their organization needs right now. A quarter of the C-Suite isn't confident in how they're making calls. These aren't underperformers. These are the people in the chair. The report names the gaps but doesn't connect them. Most of them circle back to the same thing. When you haven't done a careful read of what your judgment is built on - what your First Act was specifically running on - you're managing symptoms rather than the system. Strategic clarity is hard to manufacture. It comes from knowing your own recipe precisely enough to know what you're optimizing for. The rooms are getting harder. The chair is getting heavier. That's not an argument for leaving. It's an argument for knowing exactly what you're working with. 8 8 Comments Like Comment Share Copy LinkedIn Facebook X Carly Vivian 4mo Report this comment Full report here: https://www.lhh.com/en-us/insights/pressroom/lhh-2026-c-suite-research Like Reply 1 Reaction Chuck Vivian 4mo Report this comment Very timely article, Carly.
