# Sandy Hook Promise 

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world: indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” - Margaret Mead Other Sandy Hook Promise SHP's mission is to help eliminate the causes of gun violence that lead to the senseless, everyday murder of children and adults. SHP’s unique approach will break through and lead to successful change through: Taking a holistic, comprehensive approach to identifying all the causes of gun violence – including mental health, family, community, school safety, and gun responsibility. Listening and learning through dialogue and sharing among all parties on all sides of the argument before acting to seek common ground, generate new ideas, and apply breakthrough technologies. Implementing both legislative and non-legislative solutions. Laws are important, but are not the only path to reducing gun violence. Non-legislative solutions to pressing social problems, like Mothers Against Drunk Drivers “Designated Driver” initiative, have saved hundreds of thousands of lives. SHP will develop and implement such non-legislative initiatives. Cultivating and promoting local and national change through our grass-roots Promise Communities. These communities will educate and engage the middle majority in order to change attitudes and beliefs. These communities will be mobilized to advocate for policy changes and to promote non-policy solutions, therefore re-engaging this “majority” in the fight against gun violence.
