# Schumacher Farm Park

Friends of Schumacher Farm Park Where Dane County's Rural History Comes Alive Read More Support Us Read More Trails and Grounds Read More Park events Read More Previous Next Step back in time... This 40-acre farmstead, known as Schumacher Farm Park, was gifted to the Dane County Parks Commission in 1978 by Marcella Schumacher Pendall. The original farmhouse and barn built in 1908 are joined by historic outbuildings relocated from local farms. Today, the park offers both a glimpse into rural life of the 1920s–1930s and a living example of land stewardship. Visitors can explore trails through a 47-acre restored prairie on a hilltop with sweeping views of Waunakee and even a glimpse of the State Capitol. Our grounds are open year-round. In the warmer months, volunteers care for the heirloom garden, orchard, and chickens, while ongoing prairie restoration supports native plants, pollinators, and wildlife. The park hosts workshops, public events like Heritage Fest and Halloween at the Farm, and private gatherings in the Center for Rural History. Schumacher Farm Park preserves Dane County’s agricultural heritage while conserving its natural landscapes through restoration, education, and community engagement.
