Topping 
Hold Point: This is the last visual inspection before the assembly is permanently closed. Do not place
concrete or tile topping until this check passes. 
Coverage 
[ ] Protection board covers 100% of the drainage mat area: no gaps or missing sections 
[ ] Boards are butted tightly: no open joints wider than 1/4 in. 
[ ] No sections of drainage mat or membrane are left exposed before topping 
Board Condition 
[ ] Boards are undamaged: no cracks, breaks, or soft spots 
[ ] No debris or tools are trapped under the board layer 
[ ] Boards are lying flat: no rocking, bowing, or raised edges 
Clearance at Drains and Scuppers 
[ ] Protection board is cut cleanly around the drain clamping ring: ring is not covered 
[ ] Drain ring is accessible for final inspection before topping 
[ ] Protection board terminates cleanly at scupper throats: no material blocking opening 
[ ] Scupper throat clearance is confirmed: drainage path is unobstructed 
Clearance at Walls and Penetrations 
[ ] Protection board terminates 1/2 in. from all walls and curbs: no compression against the
membrane termination 
[ ] All penetrations are clear: no board material bridging or covering the membrane flashing at pipes
or posts 
PM Approval Before Topping
