For Vancouver founder Kate Bouchard, it meant raising capital, pitching investors while pregnant, and even remortgaging her condo to fund product development. Her wellness tech startup Loba eventually shut down—but the experience left her with lessons most founders rarely talk about publicly. 🎙️ Now she’s sharing those insights through a new podcast called Branded Assets, where she explores entrepreneurship, brand strategy, and the cultural forces shaping modern businesses. “Too often what we see are just the glossy headlines when a startup hits it big,” she says. In our latest story, we dive into the podcast and the ideas driving it. Damian Ryan says returning founders know how to build leaner https://lnkd.in/ga7mQ-nf Dev Finley Unusual • 1K followers There are some powerful insights in this recent First Round Capital article about Shopify's journey of transformation. While companies were cautiously testing AI systems, Shopify went all in on an existential bet: that providing unfettered access to AI while encouraging bold experimentation was the only path forward for the company. So they invested in unlimited tool access, radical transparency, and unconventional hiring strategies—all before knowing if it would work. So far, the outcome isn’t just about improved productivity. It’s about discovering and embracing entirely new ways of leading, listening, hiring, connecting, selling, and building. Shopify didn't just adopt AI, they’re using it to completely reinvent themselves. What I find most compelling is that humans play an essential role in this journey of transformation. It tells a story of leadership believing in the superpowers of its people and then supporting them to do their best work. Shopify isn’t betting on AI, they’re betting on human potential and our desire to create the world we want to live in. That's what powers a movement. That's how change is made. Give it a read and let me know what you think. What did I miss? https://lnkd.in/gHh9wtGG 5 Angela Fagan Codenamelisa • 3K followers I was reading Harley Finkelstein's comments at the Upfront Summit... he's calling agentic shopping the biggest transformation in Shopify's history. The part that caught me was his point about AI creating a "merit-based" discovery engine vs paid placement. Finally someone with influence saying what we all know - current search is basically just who pays the most to be seen. But here's where I'm confused... he also mentioned the rollout will be slow. Never one to hang about I get it from Shopify's perspective - they need to be careful, test things properly, not break merchant stores. That makes sense. But while they're being cautious, ecommerce store owners are hemorrhaging sales because customers can't find what they need. When someone searches "food for my senior dog with kidney issues" and gets 47 generic results, they're not waiting around for the slow rollout. The whole "18% of retail is online but agentic commerce can change that" thing is fascinating though. If AI really becomes the new front door for ecommerce - and I think it will - then stores that figure this out early are going to have a massive advantage https://lnkd.in/ezmqfatb 2 Shelli Brunswick SB Global LLC • 35K followers 🚀 Honored to return to the Conscious DesignHaus Podcast with Ian Peterman, IDSA to explore how space innovation is shaping leadership, sustainability, and the future of work—right here on Earth. If it doesn’t, you’re probably not pushing hard enough. Kevin de Patoul, co-founder and CEO of Keyrock, says founders need to accept that rapid growth comes with strain. Growing 5–20% a year feels smooth. Growing 100%+ a year means chaos, pressure, and tough trade-offs. But speed without structure is a trap. If you charge ahead without building processes, culture, and communication behind you, things eventually break. Growth becomes fragility. The real skill is learning to manage discomfort while building resilience in your company’s foundation. Product-market fit is a term that largely comes out of technology. In consumer, it's trickier to nail down because consumer preferences are so varied. A 45-year-old male on the West Coast of Canada is different from the exact same person living in New York. Instead of product-market fit, consumer brands should be thinking about positioning and product-customer fit. The ground under you in consumer is always shifting. This isn't like selling a fintech SaaS product to banks. Banks are banks. They don't vary that much. For example, with Pela, people buy our cases for different reasons: - They're compostable and sustainable - They're toxin-free with less microplastics - They're manufactured in Canada and the USA The product itself isn't changing. It's the same product. That's where consumer is different. You don't need to change the product to get market fit. You just need to change the positioning 55 8 Comments Chase Clymer Electric Eye Agency • 8K followers 💡 Scaling from 6 to 8 figures demands margin discipline💡 In the latest episode of Honest Ecommerce, I have the pleasure of hosting Jeremy Horowitz', Managing Partner at Because Ventures and founder of Let's Buy a Biz!
