# Omakase

Andrew Boos 6mo Edited Report this post Two weeks ago I hosted a catered Omakase dinner at my home in San Francisco with a group that still feels slightly implausible in hindsight. Senior researchers, founders, and technical leaders spanning OpenAI , Google DeepMind , NVIDIA , Tesla , Waymo , Stanford University , University of California, Berkeley , University of California, San Francisco , and a handful of quietly exceptional startups. My condo building was straining under the intellect in that room (pls hold your Millennium Tower jokes 🙈 apparently it's fixed?) No agenda. No slides. Just omakase and a long table of people who build and evaluate frontier systems for a living. The conversations ranged from ML evaluation and autonomy to biology, chemistry, and first-principles questions that don’t usually survive inside quarterly roadmaps. At one point someone asked whether intuition can be measured without destroying it, and the dinner briefly veered into philosophy and then somewhere uncomfortably close to theology. Exactly as planned. What stood out most wasn’t credentials — though the room had plenty — but taste. Knowing when results are misleading. When “noise” is worth chasing. When consensus thinking should be treated as a warning sign rather than reassurance. Grateful to everyone who trusted a slightly vague invite and showed up curious, sharp, and generous with their thinking. Huge thanks to my co-hosts Kristopher Floyd Kunal Bhatia , and Vignesh Baskaran who helped curate such an unusually high-signal room. The year is officially underway. If this dinner was any preview, it’s going to be a very fun one.
