Named after the English seaside resort of Ventnor on the Isle of Wight, this 2-square-mile city was among the first communities in America designed as an automobile suburb, which is why even today its tree-lined streets feature spacious single-family lots, generous setbacks, and a refined residential character that sets it apart from the rest of the South Jersey Shore. The heart of Ventnor is its 1.7-mile residential boardwalk , arguably the most peaceful and beautiful stretch of boards anywhere on the Jersey Shore. Unlike the commercial boardwalks of Atlantic City, Wildwood, and Ocean City, Ventnor's boardwalk is purely residential. No arcades, no shops, no fried-food stands. Just the ocean, the dunes, magnificent beachfront homes, and miles of unobstructed Atlantic views. Recently, Ventnor completed Phase 1 of a multi-million dollar boardwalk reconstruction using high-density Ipe tropical hardwood, with a ribbon cutting in April 2026 and Phase 2 set to follow after Labor Day. The investment signals exactly how much pride this community takes in preserving its character. The Ventnor Fishing Pier at Cambridge Avenue is another beloved local landmark. At 1,000 feet, it is the longest ocean fishing pier in New Jersey.
