## Downtown Crabapple's Lawn Count Just Doubled, and October Is Booked Solid

"It will create another welcoming place for people to gather, connect and enjoy all that Crabapple has to offer, while supporting the local businesses that make this area so special," Mayor Peyton Jamison said in August, when the City of Milton unveiled a new outdoor event space at Market District Crabapple. Two months on, that lawn and the older Green at Crabapple Market are splitting a downtown calendar that doesn't slow down once Crabapple Fest wraps. The festival ran yesterday, Oct. 3. Over the sixteen days from Oct. 9 to Oct. 24, downtown Milton and its edges have eight more dated events on the books.

Crabapple Fest set the pace. This year's edition added a temporary stage for the first time, with three bands playing alongside more than 100 vendor booths. Crabapple Road closed to through traffic from about 10 a.m. Friday until late Saturday for setup and teardown. The barricades are gone now. What follows is a quieter month of evenings, and for the first time, there are two lawns to split them across.

## Two Greens, One Heritage Walk

Downtown Crabapple's outdoor events now split between two separate venues, and the names are close enough to mix up. They're run independently of each other.

- **The Green at Crabapple Market** is the established lawn, with its own events calendar. This October that lineup includes a makers' market, live music, comedy and an outdoor movie night. The Crabapple Market directory nearby lists Poe & Company Bookstore, Whitetail Bicycles, Woof Gang Bakery & Grooming, Indigo Home & Design and Metamorphosis Fine Arts & Crafts Gallery, now open at 1870 Heritage Walk.
- **Market District Green** is the newcomer, sitting at the far eastern end of Market District Crabapple, the development on the east side of Heritage Walk directly across from Hyde Brewing. The City announced its opening on Aug. 6. Its neighbors on the Market District roster include Vice Steak Bar, Smash Burgers by Vice, Yum! Thai Cuisine & Bar and Suite 200 Grille.

The new green debuted with the All Nashville Roadshow, a country concert that had already played the same spot the previous summer. Beyond that, the City has confirmed just one regular tenant: the Milton Farmers Market. That brings the City's monthly market to the east end of the district, a stretch of Heritage Walk that until this summer was mostly known as a dinner destination.

## Eight Events, Sixteen Days

Once the festival clears out, the month fills in steadily, with at least two things happening most weeks. In order:

1. **Friday, Oct. 9, 4 to 7 p.m.** Shop, Sip & Stroll on The Green at Crabapple Market, with more than 35 local artisans and makers and live music from Acoustic Soul.
2. **Saturday, Oct. 10, 7 to 9 p.m.** Grace on The Green, featuring Kevin Swan & The Well Collective.
3. **Wednesday, Oct. 14, 7:30 to 9 p.m.** The Punchline Comedy Night on The Green.
4. **Thursday, Oct. 15, 4 to 8 p.m.** Wanderlust Food Truck Fest Crabapple, on the Crabapple Market calendar.
5. **Saturday, Oct. 17, 7 to 9 p.m.** An interactive screening of "Goonies" on The Green.
6. **Sunday, Oct. 18, 2 to 4 p.m.** The City's Rivers Alive volunteer cleanup at Providence Park, focused on shoreline and stream buffers.
7. **Wednesday, Oct. 21, 4 to 7 p.m.** The Milton Farmers Market at Market District Crabapple. The 2026 season began May 20 and runs the third Wednesday of each month through October, making this the final market of the year.
8. **Saturday, Oct. 24, 4 to 7 p.m.** Carvin' in Crabapple at Broadwell Pavilion, 12615 Broadwell Road, with pumpkin carving, Trunk-or-Treat, crafts and food trucks.

Three organizers are splitting the calendar. Crabapple Market's lawn carries most of the evening entertainment. The City runs the farmers market, the cleanup and the pumpkin carving. Market District's new green hosts the season's last market. No single venue is shouldering the whole month. One note for anyone checking the City's older event page: it still lists Carvin' in Crabapple on a Saturday, Oct. 25 with no year attached. Both the City's 2026 announcement and its calendar confirm Oct. 24.

## The East End Isn't Finished Yet

Market District Green opened ahead of schedule, and the City isn't hiding that. Plans call for a permanent stage that would make the space more flexible for different event types. A new office building and heavier landscaping are meant to buffer that stage from nearby homes, and the City describes the project as matching the character of both the existing district and downtown Milton overall.

Two more ideas are floating around, neither confirmed. Back in August, the City said Market District was exploring an outdoor skating rink for November, and nothing newer has surfaced on dates, hours or pricing. That same announcement floated Crabapple Live, the monthly mini-festival the City co-sponsors, returning to the space next spring and summer. If both land, the east end of Heritage Walk would have programming in both winter and warm weather, a sharp turn for a lawn that only hosted its first event this past August.

## Before the Month Wraps, Getting Downtown Gets Easier

Traffic around Crabapple has been a headache all fall, and the most useful update lands right around the final October events. Each project's status below reflects the most recent public update available.

New signal at Crabapple Road and Green Road · Activation slipped from July 30 to Aug. 12, then to an expected Aug. 20; go-live not confirmed in available reporting · City post, Aug. 18, 2026, as reported by Appen Media

Roundabout at Crabapple Road and Green Road · Council authorized a request for $1 million in federal preliminary-engineering funds, with a 20% TSPLOST match · City update, Jan. 22, 2026

The bridge is the one that matters most for downtown evenings. The old span was closed and demolished late last May, and a GDOT-contracted crew from Williams Contracting has been rebuilding it since. September's update had the crew finishing approach slabs and grooving the deck, with curbs, gutters, guardrails and paving still to come. While the bridge has been out, the City has warned the detour is straining Crabapple-area roads, especially Birmingham Highway and Mayfield Road during school commutes. If the end-of-October timeline holds, the bridge should reopen right around Carvin' in Crabapple on Oct. 24, the City's last event of the month.

## What's on the Calendar After October

The farmers market closes out its season on Oct. 21. After that, the next confirmed downtown dates belong to the City's holiday lineup. Christmas in Crabapple returns to Broadwell Pavilion on Saturday, Dec. 5, from 2 to 6 p.m., with the tree lighting at dusk. The City's 2026 event list also has a Pancake Breakfast with Santa on Dec. 12 and a Tea Party with Mrs. Claus on Dec. 21. The stretch between late October and early December is where that proposed Market District rink would land, if it gets confirmed.

If an evening on one of these greens has you wondering how close to Heritage Walk you'd want your own front door, [Debra Johnston](https://debraajohnston.com/) knows Milton's downtown streets and the quieter roads beyond them. Let's Connect.
