# Casting a Concrete Bowl Lamp

Project Instructions Shopping List Project Instructions When working with cement-based products, always wear eye protection and waterproof gloves. Step 1 Place the jar, lid side down, in the bottom of the bowl and draw a ring around it with a pen. Step 2 Place a ring of glue on top of the outline drawn. The glue line should be about 1/4” high. Also, add a single line of glue about ¾” long that goes out from the ring. This secondary line will create a channel for the electrical cord. Step 3 Press the jar firmly into the glue. QUIKTIP: Make sure that the jar does not hit the bowl. It should rest on the ring of glue. Step 4 Mix the concrete and pour it into the bowl. Step 5 Vibrate the bowl to release any air bubbles from the concrete. Step 6 Allow the concrete to cure for at least 20 hours. QUIKTIP: if the bowl being used is not flexible, wait longer (up to 48 hours). Step 7 Carefully remove the concrete from the bowl by twisting the jar. Step 8 Mix another batch of concrete and spoon it into a second bowl. Step 9 Place the protruding side of the jar into the wet concrete and use the two equally-sized wood pieces as spacers. Step 10 Allow the concrete to cure, again. Wait at least 20 hours. Step 11 Carefully remove the second bowl. QUIKTIP: It may be necessary to break the bowl with a hammer. Step 12 Use a knife to peel and pry off the glue. Step 13 Drill a circle of holes through the lid, and then, use a knife to cut through the metal in between the hole. Step 14 Place the socket and light bulb into the jar. Also, place the cord into the channel created by the line of glue.
