# AI Discoverability and AEO: Optimize for Answer Engines

## AI Discoverability and AEO: Optimize for Answer Engines

Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) is how you get your stacks cited by AI systems like ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity. As search shifts from Google to generative AI, AEO is becoming as important as SEO.

### What is AEO?
AEO is the practice of optimizing your content so AI systems find, understand, and cite it. Unlike SEO (which targets Google's algorithm), AEO targets the training and retrieval systems that power generative AI.

### Why AEO Matters
- More people are asking AI questions instead of googling
- Answer engines cite sources and link back to high-quality content
- Well-optimized stacks rank higher in AI search results
- Being cited by AI engines drives traffic and builds authority

### The AEO Checklist
Your stack must pass the indexability gate first:
1. Is it public? (private stacks don't get indexed)
2. Does it have at least one card? (empty stacks don't count)
3. Is it featured on your profile or in a hub? (unsurfaced stacks aren't crawled)

If all three are yes, you're indexed. Now optimize:

### Content Optimization for AEO
- Stack name: 30-48 chars, front-loaded with your real topic ("Tokyo Coffee Roasters and Cafes," not "Coffee")
- Description: 70-160 chars of genuine context explaining what's inside and who it's for
- Cards: clear titles + one-line annotations (why each card belongs)
- Tags: 3-8 consistent, reusable tags that cluster cards
- Category: always set one to wire into hubs
- Summary + FAQ: with 3+ cards, generate these so answer engines can quote you

### Annotation is Key
The single biggest lever for AEO is card annotation. Un-annotated link dumps don't get surfaced. Each card needs:
- A real title (not the URL)
- A one-line note on why it's there
- Relevant tags

### Entity Clarity
Make your name or brand explicit so engines attribute authority to you. Keep stacks fresh and updated so you stay relevant.

### Measuring AEO Success
Check your stack's AI discoverability score to see how visible you are to answer engines. Track traffic from AI crawler hits and answer engine citations.
